NHS Right to Choose ADHD wait times
A live comparison of Right to Choose (R2C) providers so you can pick your ADHD assessment on speed, not just marketing. Pulled from our clinic directory and patient-reported updates.
Compare R2C providers by wait
Sorted shortest wait first. Waits are what providers currently quote — always confirm directly before your GP submits the referral, as capacity changes fast.
Data source: Path To Diagnosis clinic directory, refreshed from provider listings. Patient-reported waits available on the Right to Choose tracker.
How Right to Choose works for ADHD
In England, the NHS Constitution gives you the right to choose which NHS-funded provider carries out your ADHD assessment, as long as that provider holds a suitable contract. Right to Choose (R2C) is not private care — it's free at the point of use — but because the specialist providers are usually smaller and more focused, waits are typically far shorter than the standard local NHS pathway.
Step-by-step
- Check the current wait time and eligibility with the R2C provider you want.
- Ask your GP for a Right to Choose referral, naming that specific provider.
- If your GP hesitates, share the refusal letter template explaining the legal basis.
- The provider contacts you to book the assessment.
- After diagnosis, ask your GP about a shared-care agreement for medication.
Why waits vary so much
Providers open and pause their R2C intake based on capacity, staffing, and ICB arrangements. A provider quoting "4 weeks" one month can quote "12 months" the next. That's why we track live wait times and patient reports rather than publishing a static number.
